The Startup Visa Canada is a program designed to attract foreign entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas to establish their businesses in Canada. The program aims to promote economic growth and job creation in the country.
To be eligible for the Startup Visa Canada program, applicants must have a business idea that is supported by a designated Canadian business incubator, accelerator, or venture capital fund. They must also prove that their business venture has the potential to create jobs and compete on a global scale.
To be eligible for the Start-Up Visa Program, you must meet the following requirements:
- Achieve a minimum language proficiency of CLB 5 in English or French in all abilities
- Have enough funds to settle in Canada
- Intend to settle in a province other than Quebec
- Pass Canadian security and medical clearances
- Provide proof that your business is supported by a designated organization
- Demonstrate that your business meets ownership requirements.”
What is the minimum investment that I need to apply through the Start-up Visa Program?
- If the investment comes from a designated Canadian venture capital fund, you must secure a minimum investment of $200,000.
- If the investment comes from a designated Canadian angel investor group, you must secure a minimum investment of $75,000.
- You don’t need to secure a financial investment from a business incubator. You must be accepted into a Canadian business incubator program.

To obtain support from a designated organization
- you must first contact the organization to learn about their process for obtaining support.
- You will need to present a convincing business idea that the organization deems worthy of support.
- The process for pitching your idea varies among organizations and may include presenting your business concept in person or submitting a detailed business plan.
- If the organization agrees to support your business idea, they will provide you with a letter of support, which you must include with your application.
- The organization will also send a commitment certificate directly to the immigration authorities. Both the letter of support and the commitment certificate will be used to assess your application.

If I immigrate through the Start-up Visa Program, what happens if my business fails?
If your business fails, it doesn’t affect your permanent resident status. We recognize that not every business will succeed and this program is designed so that the risk is shared between the public and private sector.
Who will review my SUV program application?
At first, the designated organization will evaluate your business proposal. Once you have obtained a Letter of Support, your immigration application will be reviewed by IRCC.
In some cases, an independent peer review process may also be conducted.
